Let There Be Peace on Earth
by
Jill Jackson-Miller and Sy Miller

Next

Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me;
Let there be peace on earth,
The peace that was meant to be.

With God as our Father
Brothers all are we,
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me,
Let this be the moment now;
With every step I take,
Let this be my solemn vow:

To take each moment and live each moment
In peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.

Jill Jackson-Miller (1913 – 1995) was born Evelyn Merchant in Lawrence, Missouri. After a traumatic childhood, she ended up in Hollywood and, under several different screen names, appeared in a number of westerns and other productions. She married and, at her husband’s request, gave up acting to raise a family. After a divorce and an unsuccessful suicide attempt, Jill decided she was on this earth for a purpose and embarked on a writing career. In 1949, she married composer Sy Miller (1908 – 1971) and, together, the couple wrote numerous songs, with this one achieiving worldwide acclaim. Jill devoted the rest of her life to speaking about and working toward the cause of world peace.

Thank you. Sermons mention that it is also our duty to exude peace in our manner, speech, and life.

The Millers actually wrote alternative lyrics, for those who can't interpret "Brother" as a generic term: http://www.jan-leemusic.com/Site/Copyrighted_Lyrics.html

Beautiful words for all of us to live by. Unfortunately, the ones who need it most never consider words like these!!

Despite what the daily headlines may suggest, I fervently believe that this is the prayer of the great majority of people. Thank you for the beautiful reminder.

This is really beautiful. How wonderful if it could just be. Yesterday, two boys would not stop,bickering and I became angry with them. We were all overtired. For a few minutes, I felt hate so what hope is there for this world.
