In the shade-crackled light of early morning
I am lifted into the fabric of the day
ready to hear the sharp-edged songbirds
orchestrating yet another welcome prelude.
A surge of energy ties loose ends,
offers reason to rise from deepest sleep
and plunge into the icy mix.
Beyond the children born,
beyond a lifelong partner at my side,
beyond the songbirds' incessant chatter,
I wake surrounded by many selves
each of whom
I am still learning to embrace
at the start of day.

Oh my . . . this says so much, so beautifully, and yet so cognizant of what one feels at that stage of life.
