A Lovely Hand

Last night I held a lovely hand,
It was so small and neat,
I thought my heart with joy would burst
So wild was every beat.

No other hand unto my heart
Could greater pleasure bring
Than the one so dear I held last night:
Four Aces and a King.

This poem is written,in my daddy's handwriting, inside the front of his 8th grade math book. We just found it while looking at books at my parent's Ouse. He has his name at the end of it. This would have been around 1945. He passed away in June 2022 at the age of 90, so we are unable to ask him about it. We found this when we googled the first line. No idea who the author is, but we've enjoyed reading it.

You are clever, cork, I'm passing your comment on to my plumber friend, not a poet, however...

A flush only beats a full house in plumbing.

If you're from Sheboygan, WI, where all the card players reside, you're going to love this poem. What a nice chuckle to start the day when snow is on the way.
