slow it down
slow it waaaay down
spend nine hours this sunny afternoon
stretch it out
stretch it faaaar out
like summer gum
treat yourself to tiiiiiime
with a book or a nap
a laaazy ramble
in a park
no sprints
or pacing
no trotting
or racing
don't make it a workout
don't make it a chore
don't rev up your heart
or tally your steps
no deadlines
or timelines
no should-do's
or must-do's
relax all your muscles
abandon control
let yourself amble
go ahead, stroll
mosey along
slow it waaaay down

Phyllis Wax writes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. A lover of warm weather, she watches the snow come and go, waiting and hoping for spring. From the window in front of her desk, she observes an abundance of migrating birds, several generations of turkeys, and the occasional fox, deer, and raccoon. Some of those make their way into her poetry. Phyllis has read her poems on the radio, in coffee shops, in libraries and bars, and her work has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies.

I like the "laaazy ramble in the park". I like the stretched out look of lazy, like the sound, and totally like the activity it suggests. Thanks Phyllis.

We would have a better world if more of us followed Phyllis' advice--at least we'd stop meeting ourselves coming and going! Clever poem, like your originality, Phyllis.
