Just before sunrise
a fragment of winter moon
hangs in the heaven, translucent
as a candled egg shell
Even waking birds,
feeling the fragile birth of dawn,
sing in reverent song.

My sister and I had an egg route as kids, so l've candeled a few eggs--you hold them up to a light--so this poem brought me back. Brevity adds power.
