Sprinkled with Sunlight
by
Heather Sager

Next

We painted on the hilltop
overlooking the sandy beach,
as the slanting bluffs nearby
nosed over a lapping azure sea.

We sprinkled with sunlight
our canvases gooey with oil paints.
The voices of other people
who joined us
radiated with busy cheer.

Later, the sun blurred my eyes
when we stood for a photo,
just you and I,
our pictures finished.
What a pleasant, relaxing
day.

I can’t find the photo
anywhere. It’s
inside me.

Fun. Curious as to which suburb as I grew up in Barrington (now in SF Bay Area).

I know the feeling of being unable to find a photo that is etched in memory. Well-expressed.

What a descriptive, appealing, lovely poem--especially the last lines, which are so deeply meaningful!

I love this poem from the title to the last line. Sprinkled with sunshine reminds me of powdered sugar doughnuts. I can see, taste and smell this poem. Favorite line: We sprinkled with sunlight our canvases gooey with oil paints.
