Easter Blessing
by
Patricia Blackledge

Next

In the soft breeze daffodils nod greetings,
rowan stretches its arms and touches green,
cherry blossom drifts idly like snowflakes
tinged with pink, floating from a clear blue sky
in silent benediction.

A millipede smooths her way up a spear
of grass. A couple of red admirals
- early risers - bask on the whitewashed wall.
Bumblebees hum a low continuo,
their psalm of benediction.

Now earth's great crescendo of renewal
is harmonised by blackbird, sparrow, finch.
Even the throaty crow lends timpani
as all the avian choir sing out, sing in
spring's glorious benediction.

Patricia Blackledge was born in Yorkshire, England, but now lives in the beautiful Scottish Borders. The Mad Hatter's tea party in Alice in Wonderland first drew me to a fascination with words,” says Patricia, “and poetry and music soon became essentials.” A diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 15 impacted her life but did not, Patricia assures, define it. Author of a children's book and a collection of meditations, her poems have appeared in several magazines and  "Best of Competition”" publications.

I can't wait until the beauty described in this poem to grace Minnesota where we're still experiencing the remains of a March snowstorm. You've painted a colorful picture with words, Patricia.

Thank you, Patricia, for gracing us with this lovely poem of joy. Easter Eve is the perfect time to be thankful for being one among the whole family of nature celebrating this light, this season all together. Claudia
