Ode to a beloved Comedian by Victoria Wilson |
|
|
|
So like my cherished uncles
No ties of blood to bond us
Yet your voice and visage
Paint my childhood with fondness
In the cusp of maturity
Your rapid-fire banter
Brought gasping breaths and tears to eyes
Upon the stage you cantor
Your early work disorderly,
Absurd, and eloquent
Leaves now a void no soul can fill
And millions to lament
So many lives you've touched
With riotous hysterics
An all encompassing range
From flatulence to politics
Seated fast upon your head
You swiftly stole our hearts
We are bitterly aghast
With your decision to depart
Regret at never knowing
What pain you hid in jest
I pray your spirit rests at ease
And all remember you, your best.

Kamara:
Well-written, but a bit redundant: "rapid-fire banter", "riotous hysterics" - However, I share your sentiment, and I like it!

rhonasheridan:
I liked verse three . One or two others don't read as fluently, but a good try.
