Lights—
Red, white, and green, shimmering
against the sparkle of new snow,
houses, trees, yards transformed,
offering free light shows for all.
The mailbox—
a magic box…overflowing with
messages of love from near and far,
multi-hued cards…mangers, kids,
snowmen, Santas, bright connections.
Candles—
flames wafting smells of
vanilla, cinnamon, pine,
those in windows
sending light to strangers.
Pageants—
children’s voices, tiny faces shining,
most of their halos slightly tipped,
each one perfectly proclaiming
the season’s message.
Bells—
Christmas carols everywhere,
sleigh bells, church bells,
Salvation Army bells,
ringing…ringing…ringing.
Families—
warm childhood memories, tinsel icicles,
cookies and milk, notes for Santa,
parties with aunts, uncles, cousins,
Grandma and Grandpa’s smiles at kids’ joy.
The glow of Christmas
is simply this:
the Love
wrapped around
each gift and visit.
