The Gift of Christmas
by
Randy Cadenhead

Next

It was the widow’s Mite
       a child’s crayon card
and not the Magi’s gifts
       a visit from a friend
he found to be worth his telling.

The greater meaning
       a gift to charity
from a simple heart
       given in my name
 the richer for being poor.

I searched for the meaning
       a tree-borne star
of Christmas, and found it
       eight lasting lights
in the good will of a Samaritan.

There is harmony
       a simple carol
in silent winter nights
       the candles’ warmth
spent sharing simple dreams.

Peace on Earth comes
       shared warmth in life’s cold
from the simplest of gifts
       hope’s hand in the dark
and goodwill offered to all.

This is my song
       my gift to you
no heavenly host
just a wish you may find
your own dream to share.

Love the kindness and wisdom shining its light throughout your poem, Randi, and I particularly feel the open heart of it in Stanza 5.
