If I Could Go Back in Time

If I could go
back in time
I would linger longer,

perched on that
step-stool chair
at the kitchen counter,
drinking Constant Comment tea
with my mom
after school
on a cold winter’s day
in Michigan.

If I could go back in time
I would linger longer.

I love the linger longer line in the poem. It says so much in just two words. As I get older, enjoying the moment becomes more important than getting things done.

Tis a good poem. It makes one think, feel. I always hope my poems and stories create emotion.

I teach classes on Joy and spend a good bit of time discussing savoring. The word "lingering" adds a nice flavor to savoring. Would you give me permission to use your poem in my classes? I live in Colorado, too. Janet Kester jlkgarden@comcast.net

Thanks for this. Savoring the moment is a favorite pastime of mine, but they often don't last as long as they should. I'm grateful that I developed a habit of keeping pocket notebooks and journals. When I read back through them, I can again savor moments, some I had forgotten ever happened. A lifetime of moments.

Your poem made my eyes well up with tears as I remember my own mom, and wish that I too could lingered longer. Thank you for capturing a raw emotion so gently.
