for W. W. Meade

Standing on my sled,
arms out for balance,
you flew down
the snowy slope.
I was as excited
as if I had done it
myself, Dad.

Wilda Morris is the author of three poetry collections and two nonfiction books. Fond of walks in the woods, along shorelines or riverbanks, or through towns and cities, she especially enjoys walking with a grandchild or great-grandchild, seeing things through their eyes. Wilda, who lives in the Chicago suburbs, also loves to travel—whether to places she has never been or to those that have become almost like home due to repeated visits. For more than 14 years--until she got locked out due to a technical glitch--she provided a monthly poetry challenge for ot her poets at http://wildamorris.blogspot.com/

The surprise ending heightens the daring, the courage, the balance on the sled as well as the skill of the poet on the page, holding the tension. Fun poem, Wilda!

Yes, fun! She resisted the urge to give that stunning last word on its own line.

Stirred memories of street blocked off for sledding, full moon hubcaps and broken cardboard boxes and late for school.

Love this sparse heartwarming uplifting poem dedicated to dad. Snowy slopes remind me of Montana. In Arizona we got hail yesterday, a rarity.
