The sloth of winter
creeps in its lugubrious pace from day to barren day
& all our yesterdays have dimmed to dusk
within our snow-bound brains.
Come out, wan sun!
Stay a little longer, wax a little stronger
till grimy snow relinquishes its place
to seed or bud & Earth becomes
a vivid green lit up with birdsong.
Then life will once more strut onstage, a vibrant tale
told by a toddler splashing through spring
puddles, full of giggles & discoveries,
signifying joy.

Wilda Morris:
Wonderful take-off from a classic, but with a very contemporary sound. I love the toddler in the puddle - such a cheerful end!

Loved this - how you transformed the tragedy of Macbeth into the joy of the toddler. It makes me more hopeful about our tomorrows.

Smiled at that last stanza. Hmm. Wonder where you got that idea from? Randy

So much word choice perfection & precise imagery truly captured the moment: the sloth of (particularly, this past) winter & the hope of brighter days. A truly great poem! Thank you.
