Matins Mystery

The starlings sit
In single file
And guard the roadside
For a mile.

I wonder where
They lined their choirs
Before the men
Invented wires.

Marlene Brubacher lives among the mines and pines of northwestern Ontario where, she says, “winters are -45 C, and summers echo with loons' yodels on sparkling lakes.” A caretaker, editor, cleaner, and baker, Marlene says she “thrives on rescuing abandoned books and growing poetry.”

Clever, humorous, introduced me to "matins." Even rhymes her bio. -- mines and pines, caretaker and baker. I like this woman's smile and her work.

To me the key word in "Matins Mystery", a title I like very much, is "wonder", used here as a verb, though its use as a noun shines through.
